2021 is a year of new beginnings for many.

We all have a new post-Covid world to adapt to, and sadly we have had to say goodbye to many people, businesses and traditions such as trips away, family gatherings, and even our regular coffee with friends.

Here at Bumble Bee Barrow, we’re very lucky to have made it through the pandemic with the support of our customers. And we now look to a fresh start for our business, how we can support our local town and community, and how we can ensure we’re going to be here for another 18 years and beyond!

As some may remember, we had big plans before the pandemic to open The Hive Café & Bistro here at Bumble Bee Barrow and Beehive Cottage in our lovely neighbouring town of Ulverston, and they’re still going ahead!

Our big change for 2021 is I am retiring from nursing so I can focus on these projects for Bumblebee and make a real hive of activity here at Scott Street for all our lovely customers and visitors to Barrow and the surrounding areas. This includes fabulous new stock, more of our beautiful Indian furniture range and creating an online visual and shopping experience to complement our unique gift and home lifestyle shop here in Barrow.

                                                                         

It’s been 38 years, and I can still remember my first day walking onto the ward as a newly qualified nurse. The excitement of new beginnings, the possibilities and opportunities brought by meeting so many people and helping those in our community. And as sad as I am to be ending the chapter of my nursing career, those feelings of excitement at a new beginning are racing through me once again as we open the chapter of The Hive Café & Bistro!

The idea of adding a quirky and bustling café & bistro to places to eat in Barrow is one that makes us so happy. Giving our customers, community and visitors to the area a cosy, home from home place to rest their feet, enjoying fabulous homemade food and glorious coffees Bumble Bee Barrow style.

Our kitchen space is now a blank canvas, and we’ve been planning our equipment and menus behind the scenes during lockdowns – think fresh local produce, inspired as we are by nature. We’ve even been discussing our plans (very early stages as they may be) with a special local chef to ensure The Hive’s look and menu is inviting to all our customers, and we create a team as inspired as we are about bringing our day café and evening bistro to you.

So let’s keep our spirits up and look forward to new beginnings, possibilities and opportunities in our new world.
